Chiro Ai Shi, published in 2010, presents a personal photographic record by Nobuyoshi Araki focused on the final period of his cat Chiro’s life, while also connecting to his earlier work on the death of his wife Yoko. The book combines black and white and color images, moving between quiet, intimate moments of the animal and Araki’s nude portraits, creating a contrast that runs throughout the sequence. Rather than separating themes, the publication brings together care, loss, and desire within the same visual space, reflecting Araki’s ongoing interest in documenting life as it happens.
